Professor M. Pilar Laguna qualified in medicine from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (Spain), in 1979. After graduated as urologists she joined the medical staff at hospital del Sagrado Corazon and later at Fundacio Puigvert in Barcelona. She was appointed chairperson at the Department of Urology of the Hospital General La Mancha Centro in Alcazar de San Juan in 1995 and moved in 2000 to the Netherlands.
She defended his PhD thesis in the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria on “Sigmoid Neobladder after Radical Cystectomy” with the grade of “Cum Laude” Doctor in Medicine in 2001 and in 2014 she became the first female full Professor in Uro-Oncology in the AMC University of Amsterdam
Across the years she has actively collaborated with the most prominent Urological societies. She has been the chair of the Awards committee of the Endourological Society and of the Institutes and Scholarships office of the SIU, the chair of the Ablative Working Party of the EAU section of Uro-technology (ESUT) Focal therapy subcommittee, chair of the CROES Renal Mass registry and board memener of the UTUC registry of the Endourology Society and she has been committed to the EAU Testicular Cancer Guideneles since 1998 to 2022 chairing the group during three non-consecutive terms
Her main interest is on Renal and Testicular cancer. She is co-editor of a book on testicular Cancer and has published more than 500 peer-reviewed articles and more than 20 book chapters focusing on minimally invasive therapies and Uro-oncology.She belongs to the editorial board at large of European Urology and to the Urological Survey Section of The Journal of Urology and act as a reviewer for the main urological journals.
At the present she shares her time between education and clinics in the School of Medicine at Istanbul Medipol University.
