Professor Dr. Shanggar Kuppusamy is a Consultant Urologist and Professor of Surgery at Universiti Malaya, Kuala Lumpur. He currently serves as the Head of the Department of Surgery and Vice-President of the Malaysian Urological Association.
He completed his surgical and urological training at Universiti Malaya, followed by advanced training in renal transplantation, endourology, and uro-oncology. His main clinical interests include kidney transplantation, minimally invasive management of urinary stone disease, and urologic oncology.
As Head of Department, Professor Shanggar has overseen significant expansion in surgical services, including the establishment of a robotic surgery program and the strengthening of the renal transplant unit. He is also actively involved in postgraduate surgical education, curriculum development, and mentoring future generations of surgeons.
An advocate of collaborative, multidisciplinary care, he promotes integrating global best practices with local healthcare realities. His current research focuses on renal transplant outcomes, management of small renal masses, and innovations in surgical training and telemedicine.
Professor Shanggar has published and presented widely at regional and international platforms. He remains dedicated to advancing urologic care, academic excellence, and equitable access to surgical innovation across Southeast Asia.
