Prof Dr. Md. Jahangir Kabir MBBS, FCPS, FRCS (Glasgow, UK) is currently the Chief Consultant Urologist & Uro-oncologist at Labaid Specialised & Labaid Cancer Hospital and an Adjunct Professor at the State University of Bangladesh. He also serves as Secretary General for both the South Asian Society for Sexual Medicine and the Urology and Transplant Foundation of Bangladesh. Additionally, he sits on the Advisory Board of the Bangladesh Association of Urological Surgeons, having previously served as a urological surgeon at University Hospital Aintree, Liverpool.
Prof Kabir completed his MBBS at Rangpur Medical College, University of Rajshahi, in 1983. He undertook surgical training and attained Fellowship of the Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1991, followed by the Royal College of Surgeons of Glasgow in 1993. He subsequently enhanced his expertise in urology by working in several UK hospitals.
Upon returning to Bangladesh, he held teaching roles in various government institutes. As a General Urologist, Prof Kabir managed a broad spectrum of urological diseases and performed numerous diagnostic and surgical procedures, including reconstructive urology, cystoscopy, TURP, ureteroscopy, and advanced stone surgeries (RIRS & PCNL)—completing over 5,000 stone operations in 25 years.
Over the past 12 years, he has transitioned to Uro-Oncology, focusing on the diagnosis and surgical management of urological cancers. His specialities include prostate biopsy, cancer staging, and performing radical surgeries. Prof Kabir actively participates in tumour boards and collaborates with multidisciplinary teams for evidence-based cancer care. He has presented at and attended numerous conferences and published widely. He is affiliated with national and international urological associations and has chaired the scientific subcommittee of BAUS for the last decade.
