Dr. Trung-Thanh TRAN, MD, urologist, is a PhD candidate in Medical Image Processing at the University of Brest (LaTIM) and a researcher at the Institut Universitaire du Cancer de Toulouse (IUCT-Oncopole), France. He is also a practicing urologist at Hanoi Medical University Hospital in Vietnam. With a unique dual background in clinical urology and artificial intelligence, Dr. Tran’s research focuses on leveraging machine learning, deep learning and medical imaging to enhance the diagnosis and management of prostate cancer.
His PhD work centers on the development of AI models for prostate cancer detection using multiparametric MRI and clinical data, with an emphasis on model generalizability, harmonization of multi-center imaging datasets, and uncertainty quantification. He is particularly interested in performance evaluation metrics for AI in medicine and how to bridge the gap between algorithmic performance and clinical decision-making.
Dr. Tran has received postgraduate training in urology and endo-urology from Sorbonne University in Paris and holds several academic distinctions and awards for both his research and clinical work, including recognition from the Asian Urological Surgery Training & Education Group (AUSTEG). He has presented at international conferences in France and Vietnam and has authored peer-reviewed publications in the fields of urology and medical imaging.
His ultimate goal is to apply cutting-edge AI research into real-world clinical settings, especially in low- and middle-income countries, to improve diagnostic equity and efficiency in prostate cancer care. Through his ongoing collaborations in Europe and Southeast Asia, he aspires to foster interdisciplinary, cross-cultural innovation in precision medicine and digital health.
