Vikram M. Narayan, MD, FACS, is a board-certified urologist with clinical expertise in managing complex urologic malignancies. He has a clinical and research interest in bladder and urothelial cancers and is internationally recognized for advancing novel intravesical therapies for Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG)-unresponsive non-muscle invasive bladder cancer. He practices at Emory University Hospital and Grady Memorial Hospital.
Dr. Narayan is an associate professor in the Department of Urology at Emory University School of Medicine. At Grady Memorial Hospital, he serves as interim chief of urology and director of urological oncology. He is also associate chief health informatics officer for Emory Healthcare. In this role, he has been featured by Apple for Emory Healthcare’s pioneering integration of Apple technology with Epic to streamline provider workflows and enhance patient care. A native of California who was raised in Florida, Dr. Narayan earned his medical degree from the University of Florida College of Medicine in Gainesville, where he graduated with honors in research. He completed a general surgery internship and urology residency at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, followed by a fellowship in urologic oncology at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.
Dr. Narayan’s research focuses on understanding the mechanisms behind bladder cancer treatment responses to improve therapeutic options. During his fellowship, he conducted a year of basic science research on novel therapeutics for urothelial cancers, including intravesical gene therapy, immune-based treatments and the urinary microbiome. He has also led studies on quality outcomes for patients hospitalized after radical cystectomy and conducted methodological research on clinical urologic trials and the transparent reporting of randomized trials and systematic reviews.
