Dr. Karl Marvin M. Tan is a leading Filipino Endourologist renowned for his contributions to the advancement of minimally invasive urologic surgery in Asia. He currently serves as Consultant Urologist and Training Officer of the Department of Urology at Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMMC), where he leads the institution’s endourology program. His clinical focus includes flexible ureteroscopy, laser lithotripsy, supine PCNL, and Anatomic Endoscopic Enucleation of the Prostate (AEEP) using both holmium and thulium fiber lasers.
He is engaged in ex-vivo and clinical research on stone retropulsion, intrarenal pressure management, and laser optimization, particularly in the context of the FANS system (Flexible and Navigable Sheath with suction).
He is part of Asian Urological School for Endourology and Technology (AUSET), that curates region-wide masterclasses and simulation-based training to empower urologists across Southeast Asia. His workshops integrate live surgical mentoring, advanced device applications, and digital innovations in endourology.
Dr. Tan also serves as Auditor of the Philippine Urological Association (PUA) and is a member of the Executive Committee of the Federation of ASEAN Urological Associations (FAUA). He is a frequent speaker and moderator in international forums such as UAA, PUA, and other regional conferences.
With a strong commitment to innovation, education, and collaboration, Dr. Tan continues to advance the field of Endourology through cutting-edge technology, academic leadership, and regional mentorship.
