Professor Sheriff graduated from University College London and trained at the internationally renowned Institute of Urology, London. He has been guest editor for a number of journals, including International Journal of Molecular Science and is author of numerous peer reviewed publications and presentations. He is a passionate educator, and in partnership with Caterbury Christ Church University (CCCU) introduced a master’s programme in minimally invasive surgery and was instrumental in the establishment of the Institute of Medical Sciences at CCCU.
He is recognised in establishing and leading world-class cancer service acknowledged by a Department of Health, pioneering the introduction of high volume laparoscopic and multi-specialty, multi-platform robotic surgery service. He is an active philanthropist and has regularly participated in international charity work for the last 30 years. He chairs Medics Across Continents, a registered UK charity dedicated to international medical humanitarian work, and holds several visiting professorships.
Prof Sheriff actively participates in medical education and training worldwide, including South Asia and Africa Pakistan where he is widely credited for introducing and championing the establishment of complex laparoscopic urological surgery, including the establishment of the laparoscopic live donor kidney retrieval programme at Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT), Karachi, Pakistan.
He has organised and chaired various international meetings, including the annual European Association of Urology-Pakistan section conference, Société Internationale d'Urologie meeting; and founded the international conference on Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS). In recognition of his contributions to research, surgical innovation, education and training, Prof Sheriff was awarded an honorary doctorate (PhD) by the University of Kent and invited to 10 Downing Street and Buckingham Palace
