Dr. Peter Hammerer, is a professor and chairman of the Department of Urology and Uro-Oncology at the Academic Hospital Klinikum Braunschweig, which is one of the largest hospitals in Germany. His clinical and research focus is on prostate, kidney and bladder cancer, and he is involved in many clinical Phase II and Phase III trials in uro-oncology.
After completing his residency training at University of Hamburg and Berlin, he was a research fellow in the Department of Urology at Stanford University, California. When he returned to the University of Hamburg, UKE, Dr. Hammerer joined the faculty and became vice-chairman (2001). He subsequently was elected chairman of the Academic Hospital Braunschweig (2003).
Dr. Hammerer has been actively involved in the leadership of many organizations and societies. He is a member of the board of directors of Société Internationale d'Urologie (SIU) and is a member of the German Cancer Group (AUO). He is past President of the European Society of Oncological Urology (ESOU) and of the German Nordkongress. He is a past Board Member of the European School of Urology (ESU).
He was a former section editor of European Urology and is an ad hoc reviewer for many peer-reviewed journals. [Edited October 2020]
