Paolo Gontero, MD
Dr. Paolo Gontero is chairmen of the Division of Urology at San Giovanni Battista Hospital (Molinette) and an associate professor of urology at the University of Studies of Torino in Italy.
His main clinical interests are in the field of surgical uro-oncology, where he focuses on laparoscopic and robotic oncological surgery of prostate, kidney and bladder cancers. He has expertise in minimally invasive live donor nephrectomy and reconstructive surgery of transplanted kidney.
Dr. Gontero is the scientific director of the Torino Prostate Project, a multidisciplinary clinical and research working group in the field of prostate cancer and the director of a master’s degree in prostate oncology. He is involved in international trials and working groups on the development of new diagnostic and therapeutic modalities for prostate cancer and on the assessment of surgery in high-risk prostate cancer. He is chairmen of the Course on Small Renal Masses at the European School of Urology and holds active membership with EORTC-GU and EMPACT. He is a panel member of the European Guidelines for non-muscle invasive bladder cancer.
He has co-authored several book chapters and edited several books, including Problem Based Urology, awarded by the BMA Book Award as highly commended in surgical specialties. Additionally, he has authored and co-authored more than 200 publications in international journals, with his main research interests pertaining to the development of new treatment modalities for non-muscle invasive bladder cancer and prostate cancer.
