Captain
Qantas Airways, Australia
Captain Chris Lin brings over two decades of aviation experience to the table, currently serving as a Captain at Qantas Airways. With a diverse background spanning long haul and short haul flights across a range of aircraft including the B747, B767, A380, B787, and presently, the B737 domestically and around the South Pacific, Chris embodies a wealth of practical knowledge in high-pressure, time-critical, safety related environments.
Beyond his role as a seasoned aviator, Chris is deeply invested in the human factors that underpin effective team dynamics in aviation. As an Instructor Pilot and Recruiter, he plays a pivotal role in shaping the next generation of pilots, imparting not only technical expertise but also a profound understanding of non-technical behaviours crucial for safety and efficiency in flight operations.
Chris's passion for human factors extends to his engagement with issues such as workload management, decision-making under pressure, teamwork and leading a safe “speak up” culture among junior and senior crew members. Drawing parallels between aviation and medicine, particularly in environments characterised by intense time constraints and high stakes, Chris offers invaluable insights into effective communication strategies, navigating generational gaps, and maintaining situational awareness amidst distraction and high workload.
Prior to his aviation career, Chris pursued a B.Sc in Information Technology & Accounting at UNSW and gained experience in finance, accounting, and manufacturing.
Outside of the flight deck, Chris is a devoted family man with two daughters and a very supportive partner who indeed inspires him. He also finds fulfillment as a Lifeline Crisis Support Worker, demonstrating his commitment to giving back to the community. In his leisure time, Chris indulges in road biking, travel photography, cooking and has an immense enthusiasm for rugby union.
