Ashok K. Hemal, MD
Dr. Ashok Hemal is a professor in the Department of Urology, chief of Uro-Oncology and director of Robotics and Minimally Invasive Surgery at Comprehensive Cancer Center and Institute for Regenerative Medicine at Wake Forest Medical School and Atrium Health Baptist Medical Center in North Carolina. Dr. Hemal is internationally known for developing and conducting pioneering work in the field of laparoscopic and robotic urologic surgery with a unique contribution has been live demonstration of endourological, laparoscopic and Robotic Urologic Surgical procedures in over 400 conferences all across the world for mentoring and educational purpose. He has contributed several first series in the field with research focus on uro-oncology. He has been visiting professor to various top academic programs and invited to deliver over 400 guest lectures all across the world. He has trained several residents, fellows and participated in educational meetings through American Urology Association, Endourology society, Urology Society of India, European Robotic urology society and Society of urologic robotic surgery. He has performed over 10,000 robotic, laparoscopic endourologic surgery cases while teaching residents, fellows and partnering with colleagues. He has 470 peer-reviewed manuscripts (available on PubMed), 9 Books, over 100 Book chapters and 9 monographs
Dr. Hemal has received numerous awards including the Dr. B.C. Roy Award, the University Grants Commission (UGC) Hari Om Ashram Award, the Padma-Shree Award from the president of India, Urologist of the Decade Award, Guest Scholar of the American College of Surgeons, Société Internationale d'Urologie (SIU) Scholar, Fulbright Scholar and Health Hero Award awarded by Business Journal USA. He has been nominated as Best Doctor of America, Top Doctor of America and Top Prostate Cancer doctor every year since 2008 to date. He is past president of Society of Urology Robotic Surgery and recipient of Shushruta award by IAUA, USA.
