Peter Albers, MD, is Professor and Chairman of the Department of Urology, Heinrich-Heine-University Düsseldorf since 2008. In January 2018 he was elected Medical Director of the CIO Düsseldorf, Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University Hospital Düsseldorf and hold this position until 2022. In January 2020 he was double appointed Division Head of the newly established Division “Personalized Early Detection of Prostate Cancer” at the National Cancer Prevention Center of the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) in Heidelberg. His research interest are the diagnosis and treatment of men with germ cell cancer and the development of new personalized screening strategies for prostate cancer. Since 2010 he is Principle Investigator of the German Prostate Cancer Screening Trial PROBASE (www.probase.de).
Prof. Albers received his MD degree from the University Mainz and started his surgical training and urological residency at the Universities of Mainz and Bonn.
He obtained a German Research Foundation (DFG 391/1-3) Research Fellowship at the Department of Urology, Indiana University (Indianapolis). Prof. Albers led the EAU Testis Cancer Guidelines Group from 2006 to 2018 and chaired as Congress President the German Cancer Congress in 2012. From 2016 to 2018 Peter Albers was President of the German Cancer Society. From 2019 to 2023 he chaired the Scientific Congress Office of the European Association of Urology (EAU). Since 2023 he is vice chair of the EAU Policy Office and leads the newly founded GU Oncology Council of the EAU.
