Biography of Prof. N. Rajamaheswari
Professor N. Rajamaheswari, MD., DGO., M.Ch. (Urology), a trailblazer in Indian Female Urology /Urogynaecology leads as Head of Female Urology / Urogynaecology at Chennai Urology & Robotic Institute. She directs the Advanced Center for Urogynaecology (ACUG) in Chennai, the Chair of the Education Committee of the International Urogynaecological Association, and Women of Urology (WoU), the Urological Society of India & President of URPSSI (Urogynaecology & Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery Society of India).
As India's first qualified Urologist and Gynaecologist, she has established the Female Urology / Urogynaecology specialty in India & rendered three-decade service to underprivileged women at Government Kasturba Gandhi Hospital, Chennai. She has transformed care for the needy by improving basic amenities and by offering advanced Urogynaecological treatment in public hospitals on par with private hospitals. Dedicated management of fistula patients was delivered by establishing an exclusive fistula ward in the government hospital.
By performing nearly 50 live Urogynaecological operative workshops involving international experts, she trained thousands of Indian specialists in Female Urological / Urogynaecological specialized services. By delivering over 200 National, 50 International guest lectures, and 25 prestigious Orations, she's dedicated to advancing Female Urology / Urogynaecology and Reconstructive Urology.
Her teaching on Perineal Injury diagnosis, management, and prevention from 2007 underscores her commitment to improving the QoL of women.
She was honored as "Ulf Ulmsten Speaker at IUGA 2008" and "BADEN LECTURER Wayne Baden Visiting Professor" in 2006. She's been an invited speaker in numerous countries in the East and West across the globe.
Her accolades include the Mother Theresa Award, Lifetime Achievement Award & Best Doctor Award, and Kalpana Chawla Award.
Her relentless effort has ensured the availability of specialized Female Urological / Urogynaecological services far and wide across the country, which is available currently in almost all states of India.
