A/Prof Patel is a uro-oncologist at Westmead Hospital, Sydney Australia and an academic in the discipline of surgery, the University of Sydney. A/Prof Patel graduated from the University of NSW in 1991. He undertook his residency and general surgery training at the Royal North Shore Hospital. He then completed a Masters of Medicine (USYD) in cell biology and protein biochemistry followed by his FRACS in Urology. Following Urology Training, A/Prof Patel completed a Uro- Oncology Fellowship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, New York. He also completed a PhD on novel therapies for prostate cancer.
A/Prof Patel has a special interest in the management of bladder cancer and testis cancer. He was the inaugural chair of the national bladder cancer trials sub-committee (ANZUP), speciality editor for the Australia New Zealand Journal of Surgery and director of the Urological Cancer Outcomes Centre at Westmead Hospital. He has written a number of books and book chapters related to prostate and bladder cancer management and authored over 60 peer reviewed journal articles.
