Consultant Urological Surgeon
Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust, United Kingdom
Having been appointed as a Consultant Urological Surgeon to Frimley Park Hospital in 2005, Neil Barber is Clinical Lead for Urology at Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust and Director of the Frimley Renal Cancer Centre and the Frimley Benign Prostate Clinical Research Centre.
His particular subspecialist interests in managing waterworks symptoms in women and men, particularly for men suffering with BPH, has led to his involvement in new cutting edge treatments including the introduction to NHS England of the Greenlight laser in 2002, Urolift in 2014, and in 2019, Aquablation of the prostate using the Aquabeam system and iTind procedures.
Neil has been involved in numerous high quality national, European and global studies in this field and is recognized as a Key Opinion Leader and clinical advisor both to industry and to NICE. His aim is to offer men suffering with bothersome waterworks symptoms as a result of BPH the full range of treatment options in 2020, including TURP (TURiS), Greenlight laser prostatectomy (PVP), Urolift (including those men with middle lobes), Rezum, Aquablation of the prostate and iTIND – tailoring the best surgical approach to both the patients’ goals, the severity of the condition and the anatomy of that patients’ prostate.
Beyond that Neil has developed a specialist team in the delivery of surgical solutions for kidney disorders, primarily involving renal cancer but also other conditions of the upper urinary tract including PUJ obstruction. Neil has been performing advanced and complex robotic assisted surgery in this field for over 15 years, the Frimley Renal Cancer Centre (FRCC) performing amongst the highest number of robotic assisted partial nephrectomy for renal tumours per year in the UK year on year.
