Professor Prokar Dasgupta OBE, King’s Health Partners Professor of Surgery, is a globally recognised clinician-scientist, educator, polymath and 10th Editor-in-Chief of the British Journal of Urology International (BJUI). A pioneer of robotic surgery in Urology in the UK, he has mentored numerous surgeons and led groundbreaking innovations, including the ‘Dasgupta technique’, image guided and 3D printed prostatectomies, and world-first trials in telerobotics and surgical techniques. He also leads healthcare within the Responsible Ai UK ecosystem funded by the UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), chairing the working group for Responsible AI in Health and Social Care.
He has published over 1,100 articles, trained over 340 surgical students, and played a key role in advancing surgical simulation. He has been recognised with numerous accolades, including the St. Peter’s Medal (2020), Padma Shri (2022), Wickham Lifetime achievement award (2023), Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) (2023) for services to Surgery and Science, and the European Association of Urology (EAU) Innovators award 2024.
Professor Dasgupta continues to drive innovation in AI, telemedicine, and robotic surgery training, shaping the future of healthcare globally.
