Mr. Ranan Dasgupta was appointed at the Imperial College Healthcare (London), following MBBChir qualification from Cambridge University, to lead comprehensive endourology management, including percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL), ureteroscopy (URS), external shockwave lithotripsy (ESWL), as well as a portfolio of BPH treatment (from MIST, PAE, to HOLEP). His interests also include the management of upper tract urothelial cancer, neurourology and novel endoluminal technology.
Mr. Dasgupta wrote his MD thesis (University College London) on neural control of voiding, which provided proof of concept for studies in cannabinoids, botulinum toxin, and sildenafil, as well as innovative studies on neuromodulation. He also has a strong clinical trial experience and has been the principal investigator in 4 randomized controlled trials. The UK-ROPE registry (for PAE) led to its establishment in the NICE guidelines in the UK. The TISU RCT (comparing Ureteroscopy versus ESWL for ureteric stones) was awarded best clinical research paper in European Urology in 2021.
Mr. Dasgupta has published over 60 first-author papers and 10 book chapters. He has international experience as faculty for live surgery and has been the invited speaker in several countries. He is a board-certified examiner at both undergraduate (MBBS) and postgraduate FRCS(Urology) examinations.
