Ranan Dasgupta is a Consultant Urological Surgeon at Imperial College London, having qualified from Cambridge University, and with a higher degree from UCL (with an MD thesis on neural control of voiding). He has published across the breadth of Urology, with proof of concept studies in cannabinoids, botulinum toxin, and sildenafil, as well as basic science studies on the basis of neuromodulation.
Having completed a fellowship in endourology, he has also published key papers in stone disease (TISU, at RCT of Ureteroscopy vs ESWL, awarded best published clinical research paper by the EAU in 2022) and BPH (the UK-ROPE registry for PAE vs TURP; presented at AUA, and published in BJUI) among others.
He has been awarded visiting Professorships at the Cleveland Clinic (Ohio, USA), visting fellowships at USC (Los Angeles, USA) and Duke University (USA), as well as undertaking live surgery across centres in Europe and Asia.
He has served on the executive board of the SIU since 2022, having chaired their Audit Committee and chair of their research council. He serves as examining faculty for the Royal Colleges' examination board for FRCS(Urol), the JCIE; he remains Undergraduate lead for Final year medical students at Imperial College, and an MBBS examiner at the university. He has trained several generations of surgical trainee, and also a clinical supervisor to Engineering postgraduates at Imperial College, with work including urothelial cancer diagnostics, voiding disorders, and stent design.
He has chaired the national initiative GIRFT (Getting It Right First Time)'s Greener Pathways in Stone disease; and was awarded a Lieutenant of the Royal Victorian Order (LVO) in the 2025 Honours' List.
